Reveals How it Changed Everything
The actress, Carmen Cortez, gives a glimpse into her life with her husband, Carlos PenaVega. The couple, who married in 2014, were both child stars. Carlos starred in the Nickelodeon series Big Time Rush and was a member of the band of the same name.
The devout Christian couple lives on the "Jesus loving" Hawai island of Maui. The couple has one child, a little boy named Ocean, who they welcomed in December 2016.
In a beautiful post last month, Alexa opened up about the way that God has moved in her life. Her thankfulness for her family and where God has brought her flowed from every word. She wrote, "I cannot praise God enough for this life and this family! Every trial... every obstacle... every bump in the road has only led us to be strengthened and find victory!," wrote the 29-year-old before adding, "Find peace in the “no’s” and in the trials! Your victory is around the corner! #reasonforyourseason."
This isn't the first time that Alexa has opened up about her faith. In an interview with My Devotional Thoughts, PenaVega revealed how she got serious about her Christian faith in her teens.
"I was raised in a home that had Christian values, but we never really went to church. The Christian values were taught, and I think that’s why I ended up going to it later on in my life." When Alexa was sixteen, she decided to go to church. At first, it was just surface level faith, she shares.
"So I would drive myself to church and to Bible study, but it wasn’t something I was completely committed to. I knew I loved Jesus, and I knew I had faith, but I didn’t truly understand. It was very surface."
Four years ago, she made the decision to get really serious about her faith. It completely changed her life. "It wasn’t until about four years ago that I started diving in, and that’s when I met my husband. And we were both kind of on that journey together. And once you do that, your life completely changes," she shared.
She says that's impacted her movie career and her personal life, but she doesn't regret it one bit. "And I think he one thing you can tell obviously from a career standpoint are the types of roles I’m willing to take now as opposed to what I was taking then. Even your friends–so many things change. And I think it’s scary for people because they’re afraid they’re missing out on so much or like, 'Oh my gosh, I don’t want to give up all these things.'"
She added, "But when you realize what you’re missing, by kind of living this other lifestyle, there’s nothing more fulfilling than making that decision to fully commit. And that’s been exciting."
Her husband, Carlos, also had a conversion before meeting Alexa. In 2012, Carlos' band Big Time Rush was at the height of its success, but he felt empty.
"When you get home, it's just you. The tour ended and I felt really alone," said Carlos, admitting he turned to smoking weed and isolated himself from all his friends. "I really hit rock bottom," he added.
Finally, he went to a friend for help. That friend invited him to attend church with him.
"I walk in the church and I know that I was supposed to be there. From that Sunday to the next Sunday, my life changed forever."
He continued, "On [a] Thursday, I got invited to a Bible study and at the Bible study I met my wife."
Alexa said of her husband in a Father's Day post that he's all she could have asked for.
She wrote, "This man right here is everything I ever could have asked for and more! He is a lover of Christ. An adventurer. A giver. An incredible husband. Such a loving and patient father. He is a light with such a kind spirit. He can make you laugh until you either cry or pee your pants. He is a ball of energy!!! He makes really cute babies. He stands firm in what he believes in. He quite simply put... is " just the best! I love you my angel. I hope you feel so special today. Happy Father’s Day!
